Prof Tim Keys, who led this study on behalf of University of Oxford and Cancer Research UK, published interesting results in the Journal of Obesity.

He said, contrary to popular views that a diet low in carbohydrates and high in protein keeps weight down, we found that the lowest weight gain came in people with high intake of carbohydrates and low intake of protein.

The participants comprising fish eaters, meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans gained an average of 2 kilogram over the 5 years and none of them were overweight.

The study also found that those who were physically more active gained less weight than those who did not. No surprises there. Here, the simple message is, whatever you eat, physical activity contribute to weight loss and good health.

 A balanced vegetarian weight loss meal or vegan diet is good for your health. Your focus may be just to lose weight but you can see that its achievement is connected to a holistic picture, including your health and that of the world we live in. As such, you could say that many vegetarians and vegans are socially responsible eaters.
